[wptabtitle] FAQ[/wptabtitle] [wptabcontent]
Will I lose all my personal data?
No! Installing or upgrading an operating system does not have to wipe out your data. If you want us to back up and restore all of your data before installing or re-installing an operating system, please talk to a Chip & Bytes technician.
What if I do not have my OSX Operating System Discs?
That’s alright. We have the install medium (or discs) for all consumer versions of Apple OSX. The original disc from your manufacturer is virtually identical to the disc provided by Apple for each version of Apple OSX, but with the exception of manufacturer-provided software. This software is available from your manufacturer’s website after the operating system is re-installed.
Can I upgrade to a newer version of Apple OSX?
That depends on your current version of OSX, and what your goals are. Not all versions of OSX can be directly upgraded. If you have a very old Intel-base Macbook your computer may not support the latest 64-bit versions of OSX. Please consult a Chip & Bytes technician in either our San Marcos, CA store or Carlsbad, CA store about our famous Free Diagnostic to find out which OS will work best for your Mac.
Will my Apple computer run a newer version of OSX than it originally came with?
If you have a PowerMAC-based Apple computer, you will not be able to upgrade to the latest versions of OSX. If you have an Intel-based Apple computer you will be able to upgrade to certain versions of OSX. If you have an Intel-based Apple computer with a 64-bit processor you will be able to upgrade to all versions of OSX.
